We’ve all joked about those babes called Brooklyn, asking if their sib would be called Manhattan.

As of today, we can report that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are parents to the punchline, newborn son Bronx Mowgli.

As for that middle name? Mowgli is the boy from a series of Rudyard Kipling stories, one of which inspired Disney’s The Jungle Book in 1967. So if you find yourself humming “The Bare Necessities” when you see his name, that’s why.

Reports are that mom and baby are doing fine. Congratulations to the new family.

  1. I live in the Bronx and I can tell you there is nothing cool or interesting about naming your kid after this borough. The Bronx sucks big time, poor kid!

    1. But the zoo! Love the Bronx Zoo. Then again, the last time I was there I was about nine. Maybe twelve. So … that doesn’t really count, does it?

  2. Wow, I am from Staten Island too, so I also have a personal dislike for boroughs as baby names. I doubt that either celebrity has actually visited the Bronx. Perhaps they like the urban city appeal of the Bronx based on pop culture, like how people love the romantic appeal of Paris or London without having visited those places. I can see how little Bronx Wentz will fit right in with his celebrity classmates Brooklyn Beckham, Zuma Rossdale and Pilot Inspektor Lee.

  3. What on earth are they thinking….. Bronx Wentz… Mowgli? Good story. Bad name. I am from New York City so any of the borough names sound dumb to me as names. I can see why people think Brooklyn is a good name…Brook..Lyn. 2 names or name elements already used… though it sounds like a girl’s name, not a boy’s. But if you have lived there.. or have read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.. and Bronx is much worse. The Bronx. South Bronx (not the best area to live). OK I’m waiting forthe rest of the boroughs.. Manhattan, Queens and my hometown, Staten Island (I suppose its alternative name, Richmond, has already been used as a name).
