Ever since I mentioned Stephen Moyer’s daughter Lilac in the most recent Sunday Summary, she keeps popping up as an unexpected favorite.
And why not? With Violet and Lily so fashionable, Lilac fits right in – except she’s never been in the US Top 1000, so she’ll also stand out.
Or does she? I’m opening her up for Yea or Nay. Please vote!
Reminds me of one of my favourite Telegraph sets: Lilac Mary, sister for Dolly and Albertine. Sheer ballsiness there.
It’s doable. I prefer it to Lavender in which the “lav” portion (aka toilet here), has finally wore me down and I no longer like it the way I used to. I still get a kick out of seeing it though 😉

I prefer it as an anglisised form of the Hebrew Lilach, than as a straight-up word name.
No, the -lac part sounds too harsh or even manish. I hear Lach(lin) or Lech. The flower is beautiful, the name not so much.
I think Lilac is really pretty.
I voted nay because I wouldn’t use it. I think it’s cute on a little girl, but wouldn’t actually name a girl Lilac. I can’t picture it on an adult. So, it’s a nay, sorry!
Sonia Marigold is beautiful! My number one name for a girl is Marigold Eliza Pearl/Joy. I love the quirkier flower names.
Lilac is my favorite color… well, it’s tied with yellow. And I love the flower, so I want to love it as a name. I think it’s great in the middle but I’m not entirely sure about it as a first name. I still prefer Lilah, that ack sound at the end just doesn’t feel natural as a name to me. Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely adore it on someone else’s child, but not for my own… though all spring whenever I walked by and smelled the lilacs in my neighborhood I said to my husband, “What about Lilac for a girl?”
I admit that I’m all over the board on flower names. I’m not so keen on names like Rose, Lily and Violet (Violet esp. because all I see is Violent). But I love others like Fern and Hazel. Maybe I’m more of a tree vs. flower person 😉
I dig Lilac, though. But some say it lie-lock and not lie-lack; that’s when pronunciation ruins it for me.
I think flowery names that are a bit off the beaten path can be especially nice in the middle name slot to lighten up and add some whimsy for the parent that wants a bit more but doesn’t have the cajones to go all the way.
Bek, I also can’t do Violet because of the Violent association… I just can’t get around it! I also love Fern, but I don’t like the sound of Hazel, I never have…
As for Lilac, she’s on my list, but only as a middle name and mostly because she is a nature name… I’m not too fond of her sound, but I have a wish to use one word/nature/virtue/place name in all of my combos, which makes Lilac an obvious addition to my list, especially since she’s so uncommon! ^^

I’m in favor of almost any oddball flower name, though some are perhaps best used as middles. This is coming from the girl who has Sonia Marigold on her list for a daughter someday! 🙂
