  1. So much to love about this summary!

Julian, Noam, Penelope and Hugo are awesome!

Odessa, Carys and Matilda are fantastic!

Maelys, Ariadne and Calliope are great too! I also know two twentysomethings named Ursula and Paisley.

  2. First thing I think of when I see Warwick is Warwick Davis, who plays Professor Flitwick on the Harry Potter films. I love the name, as well as the variant spelling, Warrick. Which in turn reminds me of Warrick Dunn. Any diehard FSU fan will recognize that name!
Yes, the War- beginning may seem harsh, but I think it’s no different from Mars or any other names with somewhat hard or violent associations.

  3. Linet is a family name that I keep in my back pocket, but I worry that it’s will be pronounced lin-NET instead of LIN-it. It such a subtle difference… but that’s the sort of thing that bugs me.

Warwick, just makes me think of the actor Warwick Davis, but that’s just my Geek showing.

My favorite trick-or-treaters were brothers named Dietrich and Otto, who were both dressed as Buddy from Dinosaur Train.

    1. I agree about the lovely Linnet (LIN-et), as in the bird or the legendary Celtic record label Green Linnet. But Lynette sounds hopelessly stodgy and out of date, and the fact that they might be confused is enough to take Linnet off the table. Maybe for a fictional character, though, when I wouldn’t have to hear it mispronounced all the time. 🙂

And I also think of Warwick Davis, followed by singer Dionne Warwick, whose songs I love, but whose recent, argumentative appearance on The Celebrity Apprentice did not work in her favor.

  4. Happy Hugo, Auntie! If it didn’t sound ridiculous with our last name, I’d push for it.

I personally don’t mind Warwick, but I grew up in Warwick, RI, where they definitely say it as WAH-wick (or WAR-wick, if you’re capable of saying the letter R), not WAR-rick. I would have a hard time saying/spelling it right. I also think of Warrick Brown on CSI. He’s left the show, but his last season made the character quite erratic and not a great namesake.

  5. I’m so excited about the upcoming re-runs of past posts! So many ideas/thoughts about names can change in a couple of years. Especially if a celeb uses it or some big newsworthy event happens with someone bearing a name. Can’t wait to see what’s changed.

  6. There’s a daughter named Linnet in one of Anne Tyler’s later books, The Amateur Marriage I think it was. Very heartbreaking story 🙁 It’s also a street in our neighborhood.
    Congratulations on little Hugo, Aunty!

  7. I’ll skip Robert/Rob/Bob/Bert – I think everyone here knows my opinion on that name (the nicknames arent better either).

I love love love Odessa. Odessa, Ophelia and Oriana are 3 favs of mine.

Warwick I don’t see the appeal honestly – and it’ll cause pronunciation issues. I think the -War initial is kinda harsh sounding, maybe that’s why I’m not too fond of Warren either.

Am I the only one who pronounced Linnet as Linnay? Rhyming with Monet. Lynette currently just reminds me of the DH character, and she’s not particularly charming.

For celeb baby news it’s been a really poor week I think. Hopefully a bunch of them will pop up next week.

    1. I also see Linnet as rhyming with Monet. Maybe because Lynette feels like a familiar name/spelling, even if it is dated.

Odessa is kind of cool, but I have an engineer friend who works in Odessa, Texas so it just makes me think of oil. I love Ophelia and Oriana though 🙂

    2. I ADORE Ophelia! Inspite/despite the Shakespeare heroine’s fate (on the other hand, that’s never stopped anyone from naming a baby Juliet hmmm)

I pronounce Linnet like the bird – I know an adult Linnet and she is awesome! (My introduction to the name came from a Philippa Carr novel – and that series is a treasure trove of GREAT names – https://jeanplaidy.tripod.com/id20.htm)
