My love of mass transit runs deep. Always has. And names, of course, are my thing.

So transit system names are always of interest.

My fellow Marylanders will recognize MARC, but are there any others?

Two come to mind: BART in San Francisco and MARTA in Atlanta. I’ve traveled on both.

Lots of other systems have clever names, but they’re not human names, like New Jersey’s PATH.

So I’m wondering: do you know any other transit systems that share their names with real live people?

Speaking of Marta, it makes Croatia’s Top Ten. The list is a fascinating mix of also-big-in-English-speaking-countries mixed with ooh-we-should-consider-that kind of picks. Case in point: for girls, the familiar Mia holds the top spot, but Rita is right behind.

Is Benny the next Charlie? This name caught my eye a while back. Now @LittleMissMomma has welcomed a daughter named Benny May. The name is trending for boys, but still almost unknown for girls. Was the baby name Halo boosted by a Beyonce song? I’m almost certain the answer is yes.

Beau, Boone … Bond? Surname name with a hint of international super spy.

That’s all for now. As always, thank you for reading – and have a great week!

  1. Letโ€™s see, thereโ€™s theโ€ฆ

    SEPTA (Philadelphia)
    LYNX (Orlando)
    HART (Tampa)

Maybe not the most common baby names, but they could work!

    1. Hart is so cute! I could also totally see Lynx, although I’m a little skeptical about Septa.

  2. I am from the Bay Area. Besides BART, another example is ACE (Altamont Corridor Express), which also shares its name with people.
