I’m watching the reboot of Carrie and I’m captivated. All of that in the social media era? Intense.
One thing I don’t remember at all from the original? Her full name is Carietta.
I’ve recently met a Carrianna. And the little girl in Poltergeist was Carol Anne, two names, but used as one: Carolanne. Which got me thinking: was there an age of Carrie elaborations I missed?

Amadeus Lombardi made his NHL debut for the New Jersey Devils. That’s a wild name for an ice hockey player, isn’t it? Better still, his siblings include brother Ulysses and sister Symphony. For more names from the history of the sport, this is my list of names for super fans.
Polo, Nolo, Lala. The Weather Channel unpacks the names of recent storms, reminding us that there’s more than one list of names, depending on the ocean. The Hawaiian name list is particularly interesting. There’s no Koa or Leilani, but less familiar choices like Kenoi and Iolana abound.
Nancy has the data on the rising names in Canada as of calendar year 2025. Girls’ names like Eliana and Eloise aren’t a surprise, but Taline, Delara, and Calia intrigue. On the boys’ side, Coast, Lior, and Zohran all caught my eye.

Hawthorne feels literary, straight out of the natural world, and right on that familiar/unexpected edge.
Hazel is a favorite we can’t stop choosing for our daughters, even as it hovers near the very top of the popularity charts.
Maple is rare like Hawthorne, but makes for a more of a Hazel substitute. And what with all this talk of ice hockey and popular Canadian names, it’s the perfect way to end this week’s list!
That’s all for this week. As always, thank you for reading – and have a great week!
