Great Halloween Baby Names Contest 2022 Opening RoundIt’s October, so let’s play the Great Halloween Baby Names Contest!

In years past, we’ve voted our way through some delightfully spooky categories of names:

  • In 2019, the supernatural names from The Vampire Diaries took the spotlight, and Rafael and Sabine won.
  • 2018 featured all things Harry Potter. Arthur and Luna won the tournament.
  • A long list of witches and vampires faced off in 2017, with Winifred taking the title.

This year, I almost decided against reviving the Great Halloween Baby Names Contest.

Except … Hayley has requested Ulalume at least three times over the last five years.

And I could never quite pull together enough material to justify a post.

But the more I read about Edgar Allan Poe character names, the more I felt they deserved a list of their own.

You can read that list here. They’re just so fascinating that they also inspired this year’s contest.

Base your vote on anything you like – the name you’d most likely give a child, or the name you’d most like for yourself. Maybe just the one that haunts you when you look away from the list. (That feels very appropriate, doesn’t it?)

  1. Wow, what a fun idea and amazing theme! Poe has so many wonderful names. So glad to finally see my Ulalume get a mention! It may not warrant a full post, but I’ve always found this name so intriguing.

  2. My vote is with name Annabel since my daughter is Annabelle. The Edgar Allan Poe connection wasn’t something that we thought of when naming her even though she was born only a few days after Halloween.
