The other thing about Moroccan – at the Morocco pavilion in Disney World, there’s a group that performs called Mo Rockin’ – get it, more rockin? Anyhow, I keep seeing the Moroccan pavilion in my head when I hear the name.
German is actually a legitimate name in Spanish and Russian. Monroe isn’t so bad, but Moroccan is just weird. Morocco would have been a better choice. Not having a middle name is fine; I know plenty of people who don’t have one.
Monroe I can see, even if it’s not my style and I can even go with the “my daughter doesn’t have a middle name just like me!” thing. But Moroccan?? How much you want to bet that kid goes by Scott later in life?
These sound pretty close to “crazy names” to me. I agree that something akin to Marilyn or Norma Jean would be less “crazy” for a Marilyn admirer — and Moroccan??? When I read the names I thought maybe Moroccan (name with more flair) was the girl and Monroe (presidential surname) the boy! These star parents are just like all the other in choosing attention-getting names for their kids. Yawn…
Odd, I had Marilyn on the brain for them, so I guess I wasn’t too far off. Monroe is really… um… not attractive to me in any way. It seems very old man, actually.
Moroccan? Really? The best inspiration you have to name your baby is the style of a room in your apartment?! Seems odd and a stretch at best. Morocco may have been slightly better. Slightly. And yes, the descriptive with Cannon is a real shame.
If it were me, I’d choose Marilyn rather than Monroe. But the name certainly does fit in with current trends and sounds. One news story says that Monroe doesn’t have a middle name because Mariah doesn’t have one.
Moroccan Cannon does sound strange – with the repeating “can” sound and it doesn’t so much sound like a person-name as a weapon-name. Plus wasn’t there another inspirational person they could name their son after, rather than the style of furniture in their apartment? I’d prefer Morocco too.
Monroe.. eh not so bad, but I wish it were more girly
Moroccan Cannon.. really?? gag!! .. i can see the proposal connection, but her apartment decor? I like Morocco much better or maybe even ease it down to Marco
They were obviously going for the MC theme which makes sense
The only nice thing I can say is that at least the names have meaning. From CNN:
Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon have finally revealed the names of their twins who were born in Los Angeles on Saturday. Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon. Scott is Nick
Agreed on the crazy names!

I kept thinking of it too because that’s one of our favorite places to grab lunch in Epcot 😉
To me, Moroccan is just plain weird, and I don’t say that about a lot of names. You wouldn’t name your kid German or Chinese or Mexican would you?

PSML!
Commence epic pearl clutching!!

Ack. That’s all I’ve got. Ack.
Agree!

Thanks Katybug! That does put an appealing spin on the names, though more for Monroe, I think.
Oy vey.
Monroe is so very…Jim J. Bullock to me. Have I dated myself too much? I’m old, okay? Get over it.
FORGOT about Jm J Bullock! But I loved that show … which means that I, too, am old. 🙂
