We’re made it to the very last round!
It’s time to vote for in the final match-up for this summer’s New Names Showdown.
Let’s back for up a minute.
Every year, the US Social Security Administration releases an updated list of the 1,000 most popular names in the country for boys and girls. It’s based on births the prior calendar year. Inevitably, some of those 1,000 names are brand new, while others are returning to the list for the first time after a long absence.
From the new (and returning) names, I choose eight.
There’s no hard-and-fast rule about which names to choose, but the goal is to find names that might catch on or names that represent a bigger trend.
We started out with the following eight names:
- BOAZ (#958)
- KENAI #959
- FOSTER #967
- TRUE #980
- VEER #981
- WREN #991
- ULISES #994
- HOLLIS #1000
Your votes narrowed the list to just two final candidates.
But before we get to the contest, let’s review the SemiFinal round.

SEMIFINAL RESULTS
Hollis swept past True. With a commanding 75% of the total, surname name Hollis cruises into the championship round.
Foster defeated Kenai. This wasn’t close, either. Foster earned nearly 72% of the votes to advance.
That brings us to one final contest!
