It’s still hot, hot, hot here. Maybe where you are, too?
But summer is winding down. I’ve already seen a ton of first day of school photos on social. One of my kids starts on Monday. The other is off until after Labor Day, but we’re finally going to shop for school supplies next week.
And that means I can breathe. As wonderful as summer can be, I’m always a disorganized mess by the end of August. I miss posts. Emails go unanswered. The newsletter inevitably takes an unplanned hiatus.
Because when one of my kids asks me to step away from my desk and go do something fun on a July morning? I just don’t say no.
The upside is that as our routines settle for the new year, I almost always feel a burst of creativity. And clarity!
And so I’m making a few schedule changes here:
- Please look for #namehelp posts on Wednesdays going forward. I’ll run a second #namehelp on Saturday if there’s a need – and I can get it pulled together in time!
- I’m debuting a new type of #namehelp! Lately I’m getting requests not for name suggestions, but for reactions to short lists. Look for the first one of those this Wednesday.
- I’m going to try to update at least one featured name post a week, mostly on Fridays. After all these years, there are SO many posts that are badly neglected.
- I’m toying around with something new – Name Wordle! Check the link below, or visit the Facebook page to play them all.
In addition, I’m thinking about a (long overdue) site redesign sometime in 2024. Comment below if there are features you’d like to see!

Is it time for 1960s names to make a comeback? I need to think about this, but I’m not sure that this Country Living list has me convinced. I mean … is George really a 1960s name? Are we ready to put Sandra back on our lists? Hmmm …
So interesting to listen to how names get on our short lists … and why certain ones just won’t work! This Facebook reel is a great example, filled with pronunciation disagreements, creative honor names, and stories about their family.
Kind of obsessed with this whole category of bold word names. Fearless Namer has a great list on Instagram. Castle and Drummer have been on my radar for a while, but Braver is just pure genius.
Serena Williams is the GOAT for all sorts of reasons. No surprise that she’s a stand-out namer, too! She and husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed daughter Adira River, a sister for Olympia. Love everything about that.
