I’ve been thinking about Sibyl and Sybil ever since Nameberry put her on their list of 2012’s Hottest Names. Sybil appeared on AppMtn back in 2008 and seemed due for a check-in.
The Nameberry sages were reading signs from television, of course, inspired by Downton Abbey’s principled, rebellious youngest daughter. But even without her influence, Sybil seems tempting. The spare, modern-sounding appellation has a fascinating story. She’s feminine, familiar, and yet almost entirely unused.
