Thanks to everyone who voted in the Opening Round of this summer’s New Names Showdown!
From the names that debuted or returned to the girls’ US Top 1000 in May of this year, we’ve narrowed our list to just four candidates. These names will compete in the semifinals. But first, let’s recap the action so far.

GIRLS OPENING ROUND RESULTS
With 57% of the vote, modern Laken made it past imported Kyomi. Laken has been such a lightning rod of a name over the years, but it fits in well with the Nature Plus name trend so it’s not surprising to see it back in the US Top 1000.
With nearly 68% of the tally, Odette bested Elara. Like Laken, Odette has been talked about for ages. It feels like it could follow Charlotte, Scarlett, and Colette up the popularity charts – at last. But don’t count Elara out, especially with Eliana entering the US Top Ten.
Mariel decisively defeated Darla with over 76% of the total. Last year, Mariella was out in the opening round. Spare Mariel feels like it might fare better.
By a comfortable margin, Winifred knocked out Eliora with just over 60% of the score. Winnie has been climbing for some time. The return of this formal name option just makes sense.
And now let’s vote once again!

I don’t like ‘Laken’ at all, too wordy as I don’t like word names.
