Okay now I am rethinking this lol. I for some reason love Verity, Everly and Rowan, though I agree Tallis rocks lol. Thanks for the help, now to talk dad into rethinking this ha ha. On dorky names I’m a huge fan of tv and movie names because the are always so interesting. Remember Xander from Buffy haha I loved that name. I told Josh I was naming our son (again me joking around) Tiberibus (spelling?) like James T Kirk ha ha. Still movie names can mess things up I now think of Bellatrixs as bad even though that’s silly : ) Thanks everyone!

Hey who can be mad about names. I’m not worried I was just surprised but the attention my blog was getting from it lol. Rhyley is still not completely a go…I’m still thinking. I thin kI want to keep Sage for the middle name so any girl names you want to throw my way is always helpful lol Thanks

I love Sage! Actually, I think you might be let down by Rhyly. Cambria is a stand-out, and if you add up all of the kids named Riley/Rylee/Rileigh over the past few years, it is pretty ordinary. Cambria Rogue and …

      Callisto Sage
      Reva Sage
Verity Sage – wait, that’s almost redundant …
      Coraline Sage
Valo Sage – another read used it, been in love with it ever since …
Bellamy Sage – too ordinary for you?
Bellatrix Sage – love the name, but I do struggle to get past how downright rotten the Harry Potter character was …
Rowan Sage – wait, I think I know a baby named Rowan Sage …
Kestrel Sage – again, an awful lot of nature name, but I can hear Cambria & Kestrel as sisters

I get the sense you want something with some edge, right?

We name lovers mean the best, but sometimes I think we forget that there are real people with real feelings about a baby name that you happen to love that might not be a favorite of ours.

      With Cambria, I would suggest

      Eulalie
      Avalon
      Elodie
      Maren
      Nola
      Carys
      Juno

      -ly, ley endings like Rhyley

      Everly
      Greyley
      Hadley
      Blakely
      Brynnley
      Waverly
      Hartley

Other names I like with Cambria, but not with Sage as the middle.

      Brynn
      Tansy
      Briar
      Tallis
      Haven
      Grier
      Lilac
      Bree

      Good luck!

      Sarah

Gambit Coheed was me joking around and it was meant for a boy. Rhyley Sage is for the baby girl we are having and it was the best we could settle on lol as daddy has a say too. Still we shall see. I almost regret asking for help over at Swistle lol people are really crazy over names. It’s not like we are naming her apple or moon unit.

My apologies about the gender confusion – and congrats on daughter #2!

For the record, I think Apple, Cambria, Clio (my daughter), and nearly any other unusual name would encounter equal love and drama on the average message board.

Except maybe if you name your daughter Beatrice. Beatrice almost always gets a thumbs up, at least circa 2011. Ten years from now, I expect to hear parents complaining that Beatrice is everywhere, and why did the name have to get so popular?

Regarding the name Larsa – it is an ancient place name in Iraq. Larsa mentioned that she is Assyrian and hails from Chicago, which has a large Assyrian population.

Is Rhyly Sage a boy or a girl??? I dislike names that you can’t instantly tell (especially with the middles) what sex the child is.
I know of a Ryly (sister to brother Cydny) so I am not totally shocked about the spelling.
Beaudy reminds me of Pregnant in Heels Bode (which still looks like bode instead of bo-dee to me) and they would be better off with Bodhi if they want that name.
I am excited for this weeks names!

Thanks for mentioning Nerd Baby Names on your blog. Love your Baby Names of the Day… I may have to snatch Akira from you (while crediting your site, of course!)

I’m assuming Marshall, Williams, Mosley and Thompson are all family names, in which case I give them all a pass. They’ll fit right in in the South.

  8. EK says

    I sort of like Mosley!
Does anyone remember the TeenNick show
    from a few years back, “Ned’s Declassified… ”
One of the main characters, one of Ned’s 2 best buddies,
a girl, her last name was Mosley and everyone called her Moze.
I think that would be a cool nickname: Moze Manning!

Naming your sons John and Paul is one thing, but a sibling for Cambria named Coheed (even if it in the middle) would be taking music fandom a bit too far. When the band breaks up, it’ll sound instantly dated.

  10. SkyeRhyly says

Rhyly on a girl, blaaah! That’s my name and my spelling hehe!

Sage is also one of my favourite boy names at the moment, but I think it’s acceptable as a unisex name.

  11. Patricia says

Rhyly Sage and even more so, Gambit Coheed: #5 and #7 of the “list of seven mistakes” seem apt here.

Beaudy as a given name? That surprised me! My maiden name is almost the same — just add an ‘r’ after the ‘d’. I wonder where the parents of Beaudy Ryan in Idaho came up with their son’s first name.

I have to admit I love the unexpected, bold choices I’m finding lately. Some I have found a Navy (girl), a Snow (boy), Greyley (girl), Madwick (boy) and twin boys named Creed & Laud. Even if they are not my style, I appreciate that its not another Aidan, Caden, or Brayden. 🙂

I love Cambria Rogue, can’t say as much for Rhyley Sage. The spelling is unusual, but its lackluster compared to big sister’s name.

I’m putting together a book of all the creative, bold choices that I have found over the years. I don’t know if I’ll do anything with it, but at least I’ll have a baby name book when its time for me to name my first, which hopefully will be arriving early next year. Fingers crossed. 🙂

    Have a good week!

Today’s paper included the birth announcements for Juniper Avaline and Luella Violet Irene, both which made me swoon… And for the second time in a month an Erwin. Is this just a local upswing or is there a celebrity/pop culture Erwin I’m unfamiliar with?

      • Names4Real says

I love Juniper and Luella. Big time swoon.

Erwin? Maybe its a fluke – both honoring a grandfather or something. If there is a mainstream Erwin, I’m in the dark too.

Mosley? I am laughing my ass off at that one. Marshall isn’t *that* bad, but Mosley is the worst. Blechh.

No comment on the rest. Nothing that jumps out on me, anyway. Mosley. Oy vey. Poor girl.

  15. JNE says

I like Larsa. Is it the feminine of Lars?

Beaudy and Rodie, however…. yeesh. Is Beaudy a respelling of beauty or Bodhi? I’m not sure just by looking at it (I did think beauty first, though).

Really like Waylon Albert. Amaya Josephine gets extra credit for the middle, but does anyone else hear “am I a Josephine” when they say it?

Marshall Williams is great, but the girl twin got short-changed – Mosley Thompson? I find it far more masculine than feminine but I don’t even like it for a boy, anyway. I get that the names are almost certainly family names, but I still can’t find any love for Mosley.

    Lazaro is awesome!

As much as Rhyly does not excite me at all, I have to admit, it’s preferable to Gambit.
