Starbaby News: Minnie Driver Welcomes Henry Story

September 9, 2008 By appellationmountain 21 Comments

After promising that she would choose a classic name, actress Minnie Driver did not disappoint. Henry Story Driver arrived on Friday, September 5. Mom and baby are doing well.

We’re big fans of Henry, a Name of the Day back in May. We find him classic and cool, and yes, a bit on the geek chic side. In our humble opinion, Story makes the name appealingly starbaby, with just a hint of quirky rhythm. We’ll make Story Name of the Day for October 12.

It seems like an appropriate pick for Ms. Driver. Thoughts?

After thought: I wish all these celebs would leave Henry alone – I want him!! That said, if I must share a name I love with celebrities Minnie Driver, Julia Roberts, Rachel Weisz (and I believe Meryl Streep?) is a pretty cool bunch to part of!

Did you guys know that Minnie Driver is really called Amelia – I read that somewhere and I do love Amelia… anyway back to Henry Story – I adore smart, masculine, proper sounding Henry but can’t get on board with Story nor the double -er ending. Still, you can’t knock the choice really, its incredibly reserved for a celebrity and all in all shes done rather well .

Kyd’s middle name is Miller – here’s guessing he’ll be using that (far more enduring and versatile) name by sixth grade.

The most interesting thing to me is that Story seems to be trending male, while Journey seems to be used more for girls. I can’t puzzle out how some noun names attach to one particular gender – while others, like Lyric, seem to be fair game for both.

Sorry, it was Jenna Elfman. I get her confused with Tea Leoni. She has a son Story Elias:

Regardless of who it belongs to, I still think it’s kind of dumb.

Kyd? That is terrible! Poor boy! Note to David: Your son Kyd is not gonna be a little boy forever. And learn how to spell KID correctly! lol As you can tell, bad spelling drives me insane. I am not exactly a spelling/grammar Nazi, but it does irritate me.

Madelaine is ok. It’s classic, but too popular for my taste despite the different spelling.

Yep, that is a very bizarre combination, even if they weren’t siblings.

I checked on People.com and the one guy on DWTS and his wife had twins and named them really “normal” names. Thank God! Tony Dovolani and his wife Lina named their twins Adrian and Ariana. I love the names but Adrian comes across to me as a girl’s name judging from the sound of it (I hate the -enne spelling the girls usually have. It just bugs me) They’re also a little too close for siblings, especially twins. Other than that, they did a pretty good job. Still not as classy as their first child’s name, Luana, but at least they’re actual names and not stolen from the strip clubs.

I don’t know if everyone noticed this, but it seems like everyone is having twins lately. I’ve heard of at least 5 celebs having them in the past couple months and I actually know several sets of twins too. I even met a set of triplets several years ago when I lived in Florida. My brother and sisters and I used to play with them.

I’ve been wondering about Pilot’s sister’s name too. He either may have decided to not reveal the new baby’s name or he hasn’t figured out a name for her. Either way, I hope he comes up with something at least halfway “normal”.

I feel bad for those poor kids who have to grow up with those names their parents are giving them, even if they are celebrities. Recently, some soap star guy named his son Peanut Kai. I almost died when I heard that one. Kai is cute, but Peanut?! That just drives me up the wall. I’m still in shock over the names Diane Farr named her twins: Coco Trinity and Sawyer Lucia. I love Lucia, but the rest of the names are horrible. Coco is better as a nickname. The funny thing about Coco and Lucia though, is that they are names of characters in an anime show I watch. lol (Mermaid Melody) Trinity is a stripper name and Sawyer is not the least bit feminine.

I love Minnie Driver too. She’s pretty cool. The name itself reminds me of Minnie Mouse and I wouldn’t want it to be my name because of that. It’s also too nickname-y to stand on its own, but otherwise it’s not that bad. It works well for her.

I hear alot of bad names around here too, not just from celebs.

David Duchovny has a kid named Kyd, actually. Kyd Miller and Madelaine West.

Aw, I adore Henry. So solidly male and smart. A real classic. Story, i just don’t get. I get the impression that people try to use this to be artsy (it’s all about the story, dahling) but it comes off as too literal and overly simple (ie kinda stupid) to me. Doesn’t David Duchovny have a kid named Story? I’m not sure of the gender.

But Henry deserves a round of applause.

I agree – Peanut Kai defies reason! I’d sooner use Pilot than Peanut. Still, since Pilot’s little sister has a different mom, I suppose she could be anything from Isabella to Almond.

I hadn’t heard Diane Farr’s twin’s names! How did I miss that!? And I love her son Beckett’s name. Beckett, Coco and Sawyer? What a bizarre trio!

Verity, Minnie works for a whole host of ‘M’ names and Wilhelmina too! I’ve known these women who went by Minnie: Mary, Miriam/Maryam, Marcia (a stretch but still…), Margaret, Margery, Marisol & Melissa!
I can’t find anything on his girl’s name. Probably not going to release it, he came under a lot of fire for Pilot’s name (I think he deserved it, what, he couldn’t veto her? *sigh*)

I’d love to see her name, if Laney can find anything!

Henry Story *is* a funny pairing, with the repetitive -ry endings and both names having two syllables. I’m curious to hear if she has a reason for the middle name pick. Maybe she settled on Story regardless of gender? Isabel Story and Thomas Story are both nice combos.

I must say I like Minnie quite a bit, too – the actress *and* her name. One of my husband’s favorite girl names is Hermione, and I liked the idea of Minnie as a nickname. (He doesn’t. So no Hermione for us.)

Laney, you mentioned Pilot – anyone heard any rumors yet about his little sisters’ name? I’ve come across lots of outrageous suggestions, but nothing substantial.

Henry is a great name, Story not so much. I don’t like Story as a name in general, but what bothers me more is that both names end in -ry. It doesn’t flow very well.

Overall Minnie Driver did a great job. I like that she decided on a classic first name instead of something really weird like Pilot Inspektor or Audio Science. Now those are awful!

I agree that while Henry is a great choice, two names with the same ending don’t sound wonderful together. I went to school with a guy named something like Walter Tanner Glover, and I always wondered why his parents couldn’t have chosen at least one name that didn’t end in -er.

A while ago Isabel and Thomas were her top two! She said it in some interview that those were going to be it, but I think Henry fits into that sibset nicely. Henry is nice, Story is a GP for me, but together, as both -ry names, bother me. It reminds me of Logan Braden or Alicia Graciella. Personally I think that if names have the same ending it sounds just … off.

Please – Rachel Weisz did Henry ages ago. Minnie is actually behind the times. 😉 However, at least it’s not Melon or Kuky or anything outlandish. What a relief little Henry is! (But still, it’s getting too trendy for me…) I don’t know abouT Story. That’s a little…off…

I don’t mind Henry. He’s a bit whiny for me (which is why I use him as a middle) Story, OTOH, strikes me as a teensy bit cheesy. At least the cheese is in the middle. All in all, a perfectly fine choice by a woman I do admire (I like her quite a bit, actually). Makes me happy she did a decent job!
