Naming a child has become a very digital process. Reddit + apps + endless Google searches.

What can I say? I’m part of the problem.

Okay, I do think many of the resources available online can be helpful. But there is ABSOLUTELY a moment to put down your phone and have a face-to-face conversation with your partner.

I’ve previously created a Baby Name Scorecard, based on one Nancy used to host on her site. Make your own copy here.

But it struck me that a slimmed-down Scorecard, meant to be completed by hand, might be even better.

So if you’re Team Analog, here’s a printable version of the scorecard. (Pencil not included.) And if you’d like a sample of how a completed scorecard might look, check out this one.

The beauty of a tool like this? Even if you strongly disagree with the outcome, you’ve learned a lot about what’s guiding your decision and can ask yourself: are these really our favorite names?

ELSEWHERE ONLINE

A 20-minute, 2,253 names long name set the record. Yes, a man in New Zealand chose to legally 2,250 additional names to his legal name in order to make it into the Guinness book of world records.

The Naming Bee compiled great lists of alternatives to the current US Top Ten for girls. Elowen for Evelyn, Fia for Mia, and more. See them all here.

I think Italia could catch on. It’s the name chosen by reality television alumni and influencers Jessica Graf and Cody Nickson. Italia joins sisters Maverick, Carter York, Atlas Ruby, Gemma Noelle, as well as Paisley, Cody’s daughter from a prior relationship.

UPDATING & THINKING ABOUT

Benson, because Benson Boone. But also because it’s a great Bennett-meets-Hudson update.

Fawn, because influencer Nara Smith chose the name Fawnie Golden for her newest arrival with husband Lucky Blue Smith. And while Fawnie Golden is a lot, I think I’m kind of here for Fawn.

Ozias, because I will never tire of underused Biblical choices with cool, cozy built-in nicknames, and Ozzy is one of the best.

That’s all for this week. As always, thank you for reading and have a great week!
