Starbaby News: Welcome Bingham!

Kate Hudson has settled on a name for baby boy Bellamy! She and boyfriend Matthew have named their little guy Bingham Hawn Bellamy, and US Magazine reports that they plan to call him Bing.

Bing’s big brother is Ryder Russell Robinson. Ryder and Bing – they’re a matched pair, both quirky and novel but not completely out there. Bing makes me think of the search engine, but on a better note, legendary crooner Bing Crosby. Bingham is also a place name in England, and has inspired plenty of other place names in the US and even a crater on the moon.

My take on Bingham? I love it for Kate Hudson, but a jazzy name like Bing Bellamy might an awful lot to wear for a non-celeb kid.

Congratulations to Kate and her family!

I hate it. I actually think it’s awful and calshes terribly with Ryder.

I think it’s pretty terrible. The fact that both names are family names makes it marginally better, but either way the kid has to live with the name. Blech. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it…

My first thought? Cherry. then Badda Bing, then Crosby. It does work for them, but it makes me laugh when I say it. (and Bellamy? Feels girly to me, I know at least three). I’m with NameLover on this one!

Bellamy is his surname (dad is Mattew Bellamy).

All credit to Kate. A perfect sibset that even makes sense with two different dads — no small feat! Lovely naming!

I can get behind it. Bing conjures up good thoughts for me due to Bing Crosby. And as said before, the family connection from both of them is way too much to resist. I read it twice to make sure it didn’t say Brigham, too! I’m with Abby–good for their kid, a lot for any other kid. Now let’s see how much the name climbs the charts…

I like both the boy’s first and last names separately, but together they strike me as awful. I keep thinking, “Bing, Bang, Boom,” and “Badda Bing.”

I noticed that asside from the family names…Kate Hudson seems to like alliteration …Ryder Russell Robinson & Bingham Bellamy. I have to say I sort of like Bingham.

One question…With parents Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, does anyone know where Hudson came from?? Or is it just a stage name?

Kate Hudson ‘s biological father is Bill Hudson so she has his last name, but she thinks of Kurt as Dad.

I read the name as Brigham, so my first take was “I thought Kate was Jewish…”

It’s an absolutely fine name for them, but I don’t care for the clunkiness of Bing. If I knew a child named Bingham, I’d probably call him Ham.

        About Brigham/Bingham, I mean …

Let’s hope he is svelte and never invites the Ham comments! Cute on a little one, but torture in middle school.

I think that Bingham nn Bing is pretty cool. The Bing Crosby connection is what does it for me, I think.

Bingham Bellamy, nn Bing? All I can think of, being a child of the 1990s, is Chandler Bing. Not the wirst reference, but still… Bing? As a nickname? Bing Crosby, I guess. BUT STIILL… I didn’t love Ryder, but at least it’s not BING! Ryder Robinson like the cool kids at school. Bing Bellamy sounds like the class geek.

Wow. Sorry. The second to last sentence should say, Ryder Robinson sounds like one of the cool kids at school.

If I have any more grammar/spelling errors, I’m leaving them alone.

I have to agree that Ryder Robinson sounds like a cool kid but Bing Bellamy sounds like a geek. Although, I guess I can see similarities between the hippie chic vibe of Ryder and the retro chic vibe of Bing.
And yes, Chandler Bing most definitely comes to mind…
But if Bingham is a family name, then that’s all that matters I guess 😉

With any luck, these kids today won’t have to deal with the Friends aspect of it, which, yes, came to my mind immediately as well.

I immediately thought of Hiram Bingham, who explored/disovered/brought to our attention Machu Picchu. I sort of love it.

I didn’t even think about the Hiram Bingham connection, so that definitely gives it bonus points for me. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon so were thinking about incorporating Hiram as a middle, but I had never thought of using Bingham before. Of course, now that a major celebrity has used it, it’s probably off the table, and our ‘Friends’ obsession would never let us get past the Chandler Bing association anyway.
Abby, while we’re on the subject, do you think you could do Hiram as a name of the day?

Plus, Kurt’s Dad (born Neil Oliver) is Bing Russell. 🙂 On People.com’s comments, they are saying that Matthew’ mom maiden name is Bingham so its a family name. I agree. I like it for Kate. 🙂

That news makes it even better! My rule is that family names are unassailable.

        Yeah, I think so too.

Plus, for both of them to have a Bing connection, they had to use it, right?

Not something I would have picked, but that is lovely to have a family connection on each side to the name.

And I like how he’s BB, to match his older brother being RR.

My Auntie lives in Bingham (UK) and it’s not exactly famed in the surrounding area for being a nice place to live, if I’m honest. That said, Bing Bellamy is too wonderful to say.
