Hello, readers! Did everyone make it through Hurricane Irene unscathed? For us, the worst of the storm hit overnight, so the kids slept right through the drama.
Happily, we can always escape to the world of names:
- Mer de Noms spotted this intriguing trio of sisters: Elfie, Bliss, and Blythe. They’re the daughters of model Rosemary Ferguson, and all three girls were members of Kate Moss’ wedding party. The series strikes me as either perfect choices for a model’s daughter or impossible to live up to, should you come out more tomboy/scientist/wallflower than catwalking-strutting waif;
- I liked this Nameberry post on high energy baby names. It’s definitely a category of which I’m quite fond;
- And the award for worst creative spelling? Hands down goes to Cysaleigh Evelyn, spotted by For Real Baby Names in Indiana. Unless I miss my guess, that’s a spin on Cecily. Yikes!
- While I’m busy scratching my head, is there some origin for Treznor that I’m missing? Or are the parents Nine Inch Nails junkies?
- Owen and Ella reign supreme in Nova Scotia;
- Thanks to British Baby Names, Ottelia is my new name crush. Like Olivia, but totally unexpected – plus, you can call her Tillie!
- The Novogratz family’s wild name style is old news, but this iVillage slideshow is still fascinating. My favorite profile is definitely Five’s story;
- Speaking of unusual, NameCandy asks why Apple is always listed as the wackiest of celeb baby names.
This week’s big celeb news was all about Delilah, Rod Stewart’s first granddaughter, the child of Rod’s daughter Kimberly and actor Benicio del Toro. For more on Delilah and other newsworthy names, check out my column at Nameberry tomorrow.
One final note: I’m always slow to answer requests for Baby Names of the Day, but I’m slower than usual right now. It isn’t just that I have more requests – though I do, and I’m thankful for each and every one! – but I’m also trying to think through my calendar for 2012 before I over-commit. So if I haven’t answered you, I hope to do so in the next few weeks – though please be aware that the wait to see your name profiled is lonnnngggg …
If you’re looking for general input regarding a name, if you’d put that in your email’s message line, I’ll try to respond to those separately.
That’s all for this week. As always, thanks for reading!
