March has flown by!

Just as that other March Madness tourney is reaching a fever pitch, here we are, ready to vote in our very own final round.

We’re down to just two finalists. Whichever name triumphs, it will join a long and distinguished list.

PAST WINNERS OF MARCH MADNESS BABY NAMES

  • Nathaniel and Louisa in 2011
  • Arthur and Genevieve in 2012
  • Archer and Isla in 2013
  • Everett and Cora in 2014
  • Finn and Cora in 2015*
  • Theodore and Sylvie in 2016
  • Leo and Wren in 2017
  • Rowan and Eliza in 2018
  • Arlo and Margot in 2019
  • Caspian and Tess in 2020
  • Raphael and Magnolia in 2021
  • August and Marigold in 2022
  • James and Gemma in 2023
  • Callum and Maisie in 2024
  • Sullivan and Alice in 2025

* indicates that Cora won back-to-back championships. I couldn’t decide how I felt about defending a title, so I asked the audience. You agreed that it was best if any winning name was permanently retired from competition.

RESULTS OF THE SEMIFINAL MATCHES

By the tiniest of margins, Sylvia slipped past Celeste. This one surprised me, as Celeste is a name on the upswing. But Sylvia, too, has significant momentum and Sylvie won back in 2016. So maybe this one tracks?

With almost 67% of the vote, Mabel tidily beat Darcy. Sparky, vintage Mabel is one of those names that read as offbeat not so long ago, and is quickly returning to the mainstream. Could this be Mabel’s year? The main character in new Pixar movie Hoppers is a Mabel, so again … maybe!

That means our very final match-up is set. Your vote decides!
