She made a triumphant return to the US Top 1000 last year.
Thanks to Sarah for suggesting Farrah as our Baby Name of the Day.

Thanks to Sarah for suggesting Farrah as our Baby Name of the Day.
Leading lady Gwyneth Paltrow chose this Old Testament prophet for her baby boy’s name back in 2006, but he remains relatively underused.
Thanks to Sarah for suggesting Moses as our Baby Name of the Day.
Please tell me that I’m not the only person who watched My Fake Fiance, the first pairing of Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence? It was raining, the baby was fussy … wait, never mind. Someone else must’ve tuned in – enough of us for ABC Family to greenlight a new original series called Melissa & Joey. The series premiered this week, and this time I didn’t watch. But I did Google enough to learn that Joey is a manny to Mel’s orphaned niece and nephew. The boy is called Ryder and the girl? Her name is Lennox! The actress playing Lennox is named Taylor, so maybe Lennox isn’t so outrageous. Plus, there’s the china. And a very minor Agatha Christie character was a girl called Lenox Tamplin. But if this one starts appearing embroidered in pink, it’ll be a surprise.
Speaking of character names:

And lastly, the name was released for Paz Vega’s third child, son Lenon, a little brother for Orson and Ava.
But here’s the important news: next week is re-run week here at Appellation Mountain. I periodically try to update posts from 2008 because, you know, time marches on. But I’ve never done so in a systematic way. So instead of a new post, look for a week’s worth of revamped, revised, and re-invigorated names.
Things get back to the normal – meaning new posts – on Monday, August 30.
Thanks for reading, and have a great week!
She’s a surname choice boosted by a TV show – but she’d probably have caught on anyway.
Thanks to Urban Angel for suggesting Kelsey as Baby Name of the Day.
Tiny nation Monaco is set to expand their royal family by one. What do you think of Queen Charlene? Actually, her title will be Princess, just like Prince Albert’s mom, a name you might recognize – the late Grace Kelly. We’ll have to see if the appellation of the South African swimmer turned serene highness will inspire parents. And, of course, the royal couple may very well have kids of their own, to join Albert’s two from previous relationships: Alexandre and Jazmin.
Speaking of marriage, Laura Wattenberg raised the question of changing your first name when you marry. It’s actually something that I did, so I’m curious to read the comments.
In other news:
Besides Sofia Coppola’s Cosima – who will apparently be known as Cosima M. in Hollywood, to keep her separate from Claudia Schiffer’s Cosima V. – we welcomed Luc Laurent, a son for Sean Patrick Thomas and wife Aonkia Laurent Thomas. Luc joins big sis Lola Jolie at home. Is it me, or does Luc & Lola remind anyone else of soap opera super couple Luke & Laura?
Maybe it’s just me.
Thanks for reading, and as always, have a great week!
She’s the ultimate virtue name, a choice that is both simple and versatile.
Thanks to Melissa for suggesting Grace as Baby Name of the Day.
Congratulations go out to Rocking Fetal. She’s welcomed her new daughter, Willa Florence Mae, a little sister for Lucas and Ezra. What a fabulous sibset!
Also, congrats to one of my oldest friends on the birth of his daughter, Helen Claire. I once described Helen as dusty, and I completely take it back.
In other news:
The big news was, of course, Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock’s solo – and surprisingly secret – adoption of Louis Bardo. Elsewhere among the famous:
That’s all for this week. As always, thank you for reading!
She’s as kelly green as a shamrock, but trends have left her behind.
Thanks to Colleen for suggesting her own appellation as Baby Name of the Day.
It’s that time of year.
The official Social Security Administration list won’t be out until May, but unofficial lists have been circulating since mid-December.
Here at AppMtn, I can’t possibly claim that the most popular posts will be reflected in the Top Ten – or even Top 100 – baby names in use. Many of the names I write about are obscure. Some are downright weird. (Habakkuk, anyone?) Others probably chart simply because AppMtn is one of the few sites to cover the name in any detail.
And yet, if you look at the lists carefully, there are ripples. A few of these are definitely coming to a playground near you.
Is he an underused masculine appellation or one that’s gone to the girls?
Thanks to Dearest for suggesting Taran as Name of the Day.
