We’ve just celebrated Pi Day, and so I’ve got numbers on the brain. 3.14, of course. But also the many ways that a number-inspired name can be such a great choice for a child. It’s a fun way to nod to your wedding anniversary, a loved one’s birthday, a jersey number, or another special date. Or even birth order! I love the idea that your third daughter is Hattie, or that a baby born on a Sunday gets the middle name Seven.

A huge congrats and thank you to Nancy on her site’s 20th anniversary! Her coverage of popular names in other countries is always on point, and I love the way she investigates the reasons behind a name’s rise. I’ve learned so much about how names trend thanks to her work.
Jack Osbourne named his new daughter Ozzy Matilda after his late father. Little Ozzy is Jack’s second daughter with wife Aree Gearheart. Ozzy joins Maple Artemis, as well as Jack’s daughters with ex-wife Lisa Stelly: Minnie Theodora, Andy Rose, and Pearl Clementine. It’s an interesting mix of vintage and unisex names, and I love the idea of naming our children for their grandparents across gender lines.
Twins Auston and Ashton Tureaud from Louisiana became fathers on the same day. Auston and his wife welcomed Tate about six hours after Ashton’s wife delivered Briggs. But wait there’s more … both of their wives are named Courtney.
UPDATING & THINKING ABOUT
Credence is serious and a little bit Goth, I think. But also deeply meaningful and gentle. Plus I love the old school, Creedence Clearwater Revival of it all.
So-rare Viorica looks invented, but it’s actually imported from Romania. The perfect alternative to Violeta.
Is Zebedee just too zip-a-dee? Maybe … I kind of love it, but I can see that alternate form Zebadiah might be easier to wear. Then again, Zachary was a Top 100 choice for years.
That’s all for now! As always, thank you for reading and have a great week.
