What does it mean if there’s an ‘x’ after the name?

  2. 2 appellationmountain

It means that I’m sloppy, and way behind updating this list. :)

Seriously. When I edit in WordPress, it’s easiest to leave a placeholder for a second link. I started doing it with names like Duncan because I knew they appeared in more than one post. Turns out that housekeeping this list is a job of work, and as I’m currently behind on virtually everything, I’ve neglected it.

Should I manage to get my act together in September, when my son toddles off to five day/week nursery school, there will never be an “x” here again.

    I hope.

  3. 3 Skye

i would like to recomend Kyle and Craig thats my partners name and my sons

  4. 4 RainLIfe

What do you think about the name Guy? My husband would like to name our son, who is due in Aug, after his Uncle Guy. We’ve been getting so much negative feedback though.

I have a cousin Guy, RainLife, so that might bias me in favor of the name.

Here’s what I wrote in my NotD post for Guy: Guy packs a lot of style into just three letters. He’s a bit medieval, a tinge exotic and yet athletic and vibrant, too. Plus, single-syllable choices for boys present a refreshing antidote to all of those Jaydens and Logans. It would be a daring pick for American parents. But if we can have playgrounds filled with Tristans and Romeos, Coles and Cades, why not Guy?

It really depends on your last name, but I think it would wear well. Plus, it’s a family name – and that’s important. My sense is that any choice with lots of meaning is going to feel like the right pick.

As for others’ reactions? Chances are that once Guy is in your arms, the only thing that others will say is, “He’s darling!’

What do you thinking about the name Asher?

    • 7 appellationmountain

I’m a huge fan of Archer, and I wish Ashley was still a viable choice for boys. Asher strikes me as somewhere in between – far more fashionable that Ashton, which seems tired – but not quite as cutting edge as Archer.

I think that makes Asher a good choice – current, but not quite daring. And familiar without being overused. On a playground full of Braydons (I just met another newborn with that name!), Asher stands out just enough.
