Sunday Summary: 1/17/10

The baby boom continues at AppMtn.  Congratulations to Emmy Jo on the birth of her son, Julius!

Have you been reading all of those press releases by this hospital or that about the most popular names of 2009?  They haven’t been terribly exciting, but I’m reading them anyhow.  This one caught my attention, not because of the Most Popular Names.  (Jack and Isabella, yawn.)  And not even so much because of the unusual names listed.  (Though Leviticus is a bit much and Minuet is lovely.)  No, it caught my eye because they listed Stella among the unusual names.  Clearly the compiler is not up on baby name trends.  Or doesn’t watch Oxygen.

I’ve been neglecting the Toronto Star baby name profiles lately.  Let’s check in on Kristin Rushowy’s latest:

From Canada to New Zealand, remember a few days ago when we were all abuzz with the birth announcement for Diammond Sparckle Zedekeyah Lilly Ann?  Turns out baby Diammond has ten big brothers and sisters.  I couldn’t find a complete list, but this article includes a few of her sibsBrandi Shyla Molly Robyn, Indego Raindrop Sapphire and the relatively ordinary Cruz Richard.  Mom Brinessa says Diammond’s name was inspired by an iPhone app.  “We just added a couple of letters to the name so it would be a bit different.”  Mission accomplished.

Also in New Zealand, the Bay of Plenty Times reports on a family determined to find a name more interesting than Jack.  They came up with Jaksyn.  Suddenly, Diammond seems like the more satisfying choice.

Speaking of Margaret, Mark Walherg and Rhea Durham welcomed baby #4, the classically named Grace Margaret.  In other starbaby news, via Celebrity Baby Blog:

How could I top that?  As always, thanks for reading!

  1. I wondered what Diammond’s siblings names were. I wish they had printed all of their names, but at least we found out a couple more. :)

    Have a good week!

  2. ^ Your wish is my command.

Diammond’s Australian and someone was nice enough to post her sib names on my blog yesterday as apparently Diammond got into a few Aussie papers over the last few days.

Sorry about Wyit. No go on the Maori front :P

  3. Oh and facepalm over Jaksyn. Yes, completely thinking outside the box there *ahem* Jackson is #40. It’s still Jackson, just in drag.

Must have been a slow news day.

    And go Rhys Darby!

  4. It matters for naught, but I’ve always giggled (in a very childish manner) about Fatboy slim’s son, Woody… his (ex-Radio 1 DJ) wife’s maiden name is Ball… Lucky for Woody, da’s last name is the decidedly less suggestive Cook!

Diammond’s family of names makes my head spin.

Jaksyn’s parents’ quest for the unusual, and their ‘discovery’ just makes me chuckle…

Mehitabel made my very long list back in ’07, but the OH wouldn’t even entertain it – I still like it… along with Jerusha. Maybe the 100 year rule works in multiples… logically it should.

  5. I knew a Bethea. She said her Mom found it while looking through Welsh names and that it is a form of Elizabeth. Her friends called her Thea.

  6. Oh you do tickle me! Inspired by an Iphone app… classic! Samantha Joyce, Stephanie Catherine and Brandon Bradley sure got off lightly.

My sister is nicknamed Belladonna occasionally, which I think is in reference to her middle name, Annabel.

I have a Bethenia way back on my family tree, along with several male Valentines! Love.

And finally, welcome to the world Julius!

  7. Ha! I live in Welcome Bay (where little Jaksyn and his family reside) and there are, sadly, an abundance of these sorts of names popping up. I wonder if I’ll run into him at my Playcentre. Also, the midwife mentioned in that article was my midwife!

    • The newest baby on HBO’s Big Love is also Nell … her big brothers are called Lester and Aaron! Not sure how to explain those choices, but I think Nell could really catch on.

  8. ‘Mom Brinessa says Diammond’s name was inspired by an iPhone app. “We just added a couple of letters to the name so it would be a bit different.” Mission accomplished.’

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhhh! Make it stop, make it stop! **moans in anguish**
