He’s an Old Testament choice who was current in the nineteenth century. So why isn’t he leaping up the charts in 2009?
Thanks to Wrenn for suggesting another one from the family tree for today’s Name of the Day: Enoch.

She’s deeply spiritual in two major religions – and undeniably pretty, too.
Thanks to Sassy for suggesting Fatima as Name of the Day.
Okay, she ain’t a Brangelina babe or a sis for Suri. But even if Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz can probably hit the Whole Foods without being mobbed by adoring fans, she’s a superstar amongst celeb baby namers.
‘Cause Ana and her husband, musician Noah Lebenzon, have named their firstborn Paloma Louise.
I’m giving her an enthusiastic two thumbs up. Readers?
The big news from the week was the birth of the SJP/Matthew Broderick twins. Elisabeth at You Can’t Call It “It” pegged Marion Loretta and Tabitha as Mid-Century Modern – and rightly pointed out that many recent Names of the Day suggested by AppMtn readers are in the same mode. The trends, they are a-changin’ …
Enough about the most recent starbaby arrivals for now – on to news elsewhere in the blogosphere:
Speaking of life, a few names from my RL:
From the wayback machine – one year ago, the Name of the Day was Cosmo. And, lastly, if you’re thinking that my calendar has been off slightly? That’s because I completely muffed it up about three weeks ago, whilst attempting to switch from a low tech pencil’n'paper calendar system to an app on my nifty little handheld. Big mistake. Huge. I double-booked names throughout late June/most of July.
I’m back to my low tech system, and have managed to squeeze in every single name – but if you’re thinking that I should’ve written about Iolanthe days ago? Yup. I should’ve. My apologies.
Every once in a while, someone suggests a name that is perfectly legitimate, but all-but-unknown.
And so gold stars to Photoqulity for suggesting Briallen as Name of the Day.
Novelist Theodore Dreiser made the story of humbly-born Clyde Griffiths an American Tragedy. Could 21st century parents revive this fading classic?
Thanks to Wrenn for suggesting a name from her family tree: Clyde, our Name of the Day.
She’s a nursery rhyme staple – and just might be ready for a revival.
Thanks to Lola for suggesting the Medieval Margery and JNE for nominating the Victorian Marjorie as Names of the Day. Continue reading
If Emma and Clara, Alice and Grace are back, why not this nineteenth century chart-topper?
Thanks to Sophie for suggesting Florence as Name of the Day.
According to People Magazine and Celebrity Baby Blog, James Wilkie is a big brother! Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have welcomed twin daughters.
I’m eagerly awaiting news of their names – as if growing up with Carrie Bradshaw and Ferris Bueller isn’t cool enough, I think the couple did a fine job naming their firstborn.
If you hear any rumors, please post a comment! UPDATED: Paul’s comment is exactly right. Check out the story here.
Boys can be Earl and Duke, Rex and Roy. So why not this regal appellation?
Thanks to Sassy for suggesting Taj as Name of the Day.
