Starbaby News: Max and Bob

Apparently, Charlie Sheen’s twin sons have arrived.  Wife Brooke Mueller and both boys are doing well.

Naming a baby Max is no shocker – J. Lo and Christina Aguilera already chose it for their sons, to say nothing of the countless real boys who wear the appellation.  (Max ranked #141 in 2007.  Add in Maxwell, Maximilian, Maximus, Maxim, Maximo and that’s about 5600 new kids called Max in ’07 alone.)

But Access Hollywood is reporting that Max’s brother is named Bob.  Just Bob.

The venerable Robert ranked #47 in 2007, with Roberto coming in at #218.  Even Bobby was bestowed upon around 500 newborn boys.  But Bob?  Nope.  He didn’t chart at all.

While nickname names like Jack, Luke, Gus and Max are often used alone, Bob seems incomplete.  Factor in that Charlie’s daughter is Sam and it seems downright confusing.

It is possible that little Bob is actually Robert.  Or, hey, something else entirely.  But for the moment, I’m scratching my head.

Sunday Summary: 3/15/09

First of all, thank you, Anne Heche, for following up Homer with Atlas.  She may not be a mega-celeb, but she sure knows how to pick outstanding starbaby names.  Is it too soon to call Atlas the new Atticus?

  • Someone reading this post must surely have the chops to win Baby Name Wizard’s 2008 Baby Name Pool.  (Or are you too busy filling out your brackets for March Madness?  No?  Yeah, I’ve got free time, too.)  Anyhow, Laura Wattenberg asks readers to choose the three fastest rising and three fastest falling names – of either gender.  You have until April 15th to mull it over and vote!
  • Did you know there was a raging debate over hipster baby names?  Nameberry’s article on how to De-Hipsterize That Baby Name opened my eyes.  I’d always thought that by the time I figured it was a hipster baby name, it was actually a hipster school kid name – the true trend-setters had moved on to something ever more obscure.  In other words, should you forgo Ruby for Ruth, you might find that you’ve actually chosen the next fashion-forward choice for your little girl.
  • Octavia is a long-time favorite of mine, so I was thrilled to see Xanthe Linnea’s post on number names.  Now I know what to name my sixth child …
  • Gwen Stefani mentioned in an interview that she got the idea for Zuma from fellow No Doubt member Tom Dumont and his wife Mieke, who were also expecting #2 around the same time.  Tom and Mieke named their son Rio Atticus; his big brother is Ace Joseph.
  • Given the amount of television I watch, it’s no surprise that I’ve caught TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras.  But Elisabeth at YCCII watched closely enough to note all of the contestants’ names!  Apparently Clio can never compete in Little Miss Anything because her name doesn’t end in -eigh.

That’s all for this week!  Thanks for reading.

Sunday Summary: 3/8/09

It’s here!  Earlier this week, the Nameberry gurus published Cool Irish Names for Babies.  I’ll publish a review in a few days, but for now, here’s the news:

  • Make Me a Supermodel Season Two is now showing on Bravo.  Contestants included Salome, Sandhurst (he’s from Trinidad and Tobago) and Mountaha (she’s from Brazil.)
  • In more Bravo reality television news, The Real Housewives of New York City cast now includes Kelly Killoren Bensimon.  Her daughters are Sea Louise and Thadeus Ann, nicknamed Teddy.  Dad is Kelly’s former husband, French fashion photographer Gilles Bensimon.  And if his name sounds familiar, it is because he’s been on America’s Next Top Model.
  • No, M.I.A. has not named her son Ickitt.  She also hasn’t revealed his real name.  Fine.  I’ll wait.  *Huffs.  Taps foot.*
  • Gossip Girls’ Matthew Settle (he plays uber-cool dad Rufus) has welcomed daughter Aven Angelica with wife Naama Nativ.  I’m stumped on Aven – is it a twist on Ava, or a cross-cultural name I don’t recognize?
  • Niki Taylor has welcomed a daughter named Ciel.  As in the French for sky, and also heaven.  (At least, the Lord’s Prayer in French begins something like notre pere qui art ou ciel … Our Father, who art in heaven …)  I must say, I find Ciel far classier than Nevaeh.
  • Lastly, I couldn’t find it on TLC’s official site, but I seem to think that I’ve caught a preview for Table for Twelve, the new (or revamped?) series about the Hayes family of New Jersey.  They’ve got ten kids – two sets of twins and sextuplets.  The kids names are:  Kevin, Kyle, Kieran, Meghan, Ryan Peter, Connor James, Eric John, Tara Rose, Rachel Ann and Rebecca Mary.  I don’t know anything more about the family, but couldn’t resist the list.
  • Check out Moniker Madness’ list of alternatives to classic masculine names.  Part One is here and Part Two is here.  It makes for creative thinking!

That’s all for this week.  If you’re in the US, enjoy the extra daylight and thanks for reading!
