I totally can't help but associate Lucretia with Final Fantasy VII... same goes for most of the names in that game: Rufus, Vincent, Barrett, etc. I wonder what Cloud would sound like on a little boy? :p

This is my mother-in-law's name, and she doesn't like it much. She hated it as a child, she doesn't hate it now, but she certainly doesn't love it. She pronounces it Lou-CRI-sha, and goes by Creety. We won't have any little ones by the name of Lucretia in the family this generation, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of my nieces or nephew, or one of my future kids were to use it. I especially love the idea of Lucy or Lux as a nickname.

I adore Lucretia for several of the historical assocations. It's long been my favorite "first Lady" name. Lucretia Mott is one of my earliest "I wish I knew this woman" heroes. And of course, I think Lucrezia Borgia got a bum rap in a world dominated by men. While I like Ophelia, I adore Lucretia and think even my Mother might approve of this choice for a grandaughter. She always preferred the strong & unfluffy. I was very nearly Alice, myself. (Too bad She had to compromise).
I think you're right on why she vanished. People learned the assocations. I'd rather learn more about each of them (hence my thinking on Borgia) and give my daughter something that stands out without being made up. Lucretia fits that, perfectly for me. (And I say Lou-CRAY-sha, not lou-CREE-sha... I've heard worse. :D ) In a sea od Madilyn/Isabel/Emily, Lucretia stands out very nicely and Lucy lets her fit in just as easily (I also like that Lucretia offers Lulu & Lux as nickname possibilities, just in case she doesn't want to fit in)!

My co-worker's daughter is named Lucretia, after her grandmother. Lucretia hates her name though, and goes by Lucy. I love Lucy, but I don't think I would use Lucretia to get to it. It does sound a bit too goth for me :)
