Annabelle, Nahla has Arabic roots, just like Aaliyah and other names that are commonly considered African American heritage choices. So you’re probably right that it’s part of the name’s appeal.

But don’t forget that Halle was the first black woman to win an Oscar for best actress – not the first to win an Oscar. Back in 1940, the amazing Hattie McDaniel was the first African American (male or female) to be nominated for and to win an Oscar, for supporting actress in Gone With the Wind.

I like Nahla! It’s the name of the lioness in Disney’s The Lion King! So it’s probably got some African roots, which I think is quite important for Halle since she was so proud of being the first black woman to win an Oscar and all that.

Though it is an independent given name, Maribel does sound like it *could* be a mash-up of Marie and Belle. You’re probably right to pick up on that – all the -bel, -belle and -el, -elle names are gaining in popularity these days.

As for Jagger? I remain baffled. Here’s betting she goes by JJ or something similar in years to come.

Maribel is an interesting choice. Mirabelle is on my baby name list, but I’m not sure if Maribel is as appealing to me. To me, it seems like just a mix of popular names Marie and Belle.

And I agree with the Jagger Joseph Blue comment. Seems like an awesome name for a boy! (Not that I would consider it though). I mean couldn’t you have did something more feminine, like Josephine Blue? Poor girl.

Don’t care for Nahla, it’s one of those names that confuses me. Is it Nola? Nora? Nyla? No, it’s sounds like a weird, made-up hybrid. I have a nephew named Bryson, and that name still trips me up. Seems like it should be Brice or Bryan.

I really love Jagger Joseph Blue, for a boy. It’s quirky, it’s cool, and it sounds really nice as a sibling for Poet. On a girl? Awful. I do like why they chose Joseph, but isn’t that why there are names like, umm, Josephine or Josie?
