You're absolutely right about the drug connection. And it's a shame. But I'm not sure it's a fatal flaw ... after all, it's an antihistamine, not a cure for herpes. Plus, given the life cycle of prescription drugs, it may not be with us in another decade under the same brand name.

Then again, I understand Allegra is one of the top-selling prescription antihistamines, so maybe I'm wrong. It's certainly an important warning flag to raise. I guess pharmacists should avoid the name, but symphony musicians can still consider it. :)

And that's right ... the lovely Allegra Cole, the heiress played by the staggeringly beautiful Amber Valletta. That cures at least some of the medicinal overtones, doesn't it?

Late but maybe others'll still see it. While Allegra remains a lovely name, it is also now, a drug name: the brand name of Fexofenadine Hcl. It's had at least one recall and I hope it will be pulled off the market soon. Allegra has long been my favorite girls name. Anyone remember "Allegra's Window" on Nickleodeon way near the beginning of it's network-ability? There's also, in recent years, been a tiertary character on "The Sopranos" and a primary character in the movie "Hitched".

Allegra is a solidly feminine choice, it's a shame the drug company had to go & use it before it really caught on. (I'm considering using it in the middle somewhere, just because I do love it)
